Frequently Asked Questions
Do all your safety footwear meet the Australian standards?
Most of the Gator Safety footwear meet and are certified to AS 2210.3.2019.
The only exceptions is the GE5869 Gator Explorer as this is a soft toe boot meaning it does not contain a safety toe cap.
How do we know that your footwear products are certified to Australian standards?
You will find the BSI’s Benchmark Product Certification logo marked inside the tongue of each product. This indicates that the conformity of our product is based on technical documentation and an annual review of our manufacturing and quality control process to monitor our ability to consistently produce products is in compliance with AS 2210.3:2019.
Do you have footwear that are size 14UK (49 European) or higher?
Most of our men’s shoes go up to sizes 12UK (47 European) depending on the style of the shoe. The only style that does go up to size 14UK (49 European) is the Gator Polar, which is a freezer/cool room boot. Unfortunately, we do not have anything with a bigger fit.
Do you sell ladies shoes?
All Gator Safety shoes are unisex however the Explorer and Everglades specifically come in women's last in sizes Euro 36-40 (5-8.5US). The Claw also start from Euro 36 (5US) to fit women's smaller size feet.
How do you fit a shoe correctly?
Here are some handy tips for fitting shoes correctly:
- Measure your feet regularly, your ligament and soft tissue relax and change shape the older you get
- The bend in your big toe should match with where the shoe bends. With both shoes on, rise up onto your toes.
If you feel the shoe bend before or after the big toe joint, then the shoe is not a good fit for your arch length
- Wear appropriate socks when trying on the shoe style
- Ensure that you stand when trying on your shoes and that your weight is evenly balanced
- Leave 1/2 inch between the end of your longest toe and the end of the front of the shoe
- Ensure that your toes have enough room to move around comfortably

What is the difference between Waterproof and Water Repellent?
WATERPROOF: Impervious to water
WATER REPELLENT: Fabrics that have received a finish or coating that is not easily penetrated by water
Source: Oxford English Dictionary
Footwear that has a waterproof label is impervious to water. For materials and products to be considered waterproof they need to meet a specific criteria. This criteria includes the amount of water pressure (psi) they can withstand before leaking or an “mm/24 hours” rating which equals the amount of rainfall a fabric can withstand in a single day before water starts to leak through.
In footwear terms, to be considered waterproof they will most likely have a barrier or membrane built inside as well as fully sealed seams and stitching, designed to keep water out and ensure your feet stay dry. With water repellent products it is always difficult to protect stitching and the tongue area. The waterproof range has a full waterproof breathable membrane which is pressure tested in production to guarantee your feet stay dry when working in wet environments.
